Originally from Nebraska, I graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1976, and was awarded the Upjohn Award for Excellence in Diagnostics for my graduating class. I have always maintained that you cannot properly treat a pet's health conditions until you know what is causing the problem and related symptoms. I firmly believe in being able to give a pet owner an informed answer when they ask me "What's wrong with my pet?" after having provided thorough examination and performed recommended diagnostics to discover the root cause of any health issue. Only by knowing the cause of the problem can the right treatment and correct medications be implemented and prescribed.
My years in practice have taken me from Nebraska and owning my first veterinary clinic in Fall City, NE serving clients in Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri, then northwest to Alaska. There I operated a clinic providing services to local Alaskan fishermen and resident families, US Navy Seals stationed at the Artic Training Base on Kodiak Island, as well as military families stationed with the US Coast Guard and naval facilities there.
Practicing in Alaska, especially on Kodiak Island was a challenging and rewarding experience in allowing me to grow my skills and provide services for not only household companion pets of all kinds --- furry, scaly, or feathered--- but also for families with large animals and barnyard populations. I also acted in supporting Alaska Fish and Game / Wildlife Rescue for treating injured birds and local wildlife.
From Alaska, I sold my practice and moved south to Washington State where I was associated with veterinary clinics in the Seattle metro and surrounding areas of Pacific northwest Washington, primarily in emergency medicine and specialty surgical services. After a few years, and the growth of family to include grandchildren, my wife and I relocated to southern Arizona where I worked for veterinary clinics in Casa Grande and Tucson AZ for several years. From there, following the trail of grandkids!-we ventured to San Antonio TX where I was associated with several veterinary clinics and an emergency hospital for a few years.
Now I find myself, along with my wife, heading back home to the midwest, where I work emergency hospital relief in the St Louis area, and also with a local veterinary clinic in Carlyle IL. I have also become associated with the Clinton County Humane Society.
While I enjoy my work, when time off presents itself, I greatly enjoy guns, fishing, hunting and traveling. The best place to find me of a morning off is at the nearest Starbucks!
